Responsible production with an environmental focus

We guide our environmental management with a focus on water, energy, circular economy, and biodiversity, always striving to operate responsibly and reduce our impact on the environment.

Energy and Climate Variability

Emissions

We apply three efficiency strategies in production: the use of low-carbon substitute raw materials, energy consumption optimization and waste heat recovery, and the replacement of fossil fuels with alternative fuels derived from co-processed industrial waste.

Electricity

In 2024, we consumed 555.8 GWh of electricity across all Progreso operations in the region. 62.1% of the electricity consumed came from renewable sources.

Thermal Energy

In our cement operations in Guatemala and Costa Rica, we consumed a total of 14,318.55 TJ of thermal energy. 9.8% of this came from alternative fuels derived from co-processed industrial waste (thermal substitution rate).

Biodiversity

We have conducted biological monitoring since 2007 in our cement and aggregate operations in Guatemala. To date, we have identified: 265 species of animals (240 birds and 25 mammals), 155 species of butterflies, 22 species of amphibians and reptiles (herpetofauna), 514 species of plants.
